The streets of Werrington Village were buzzing and the sun shone on Saturday, 22nd June, as the local community came together to celebrate the Werrington Carnival, an event Insurewise has supported for many years.

Children and adults of all ages took part in the procession around the village to make their way to the school playing fields where activities and entertainment took place.

Bunting the Bear, made its first outing as the Werrington Carnival mascot, and led the parade through the streets of Werrington in the Insurewise car. Bunting the Bear was the name chosen from the many names submitted by local residents.  Congratulations to Cathy Watkins for coming up with such an inspirational name for the mascot who will, no doubt, take part in the Carnival for many years to come.

The Carnival started from its humble beginnings in 1969 with just the Werrington Scouts and Guides taking part, growing into a huge community event which draws people from across the city and beyond.  The event is organised by the village’s Scouts and Guides together with a group of volunteers.

Neil McCulloch, MD, said “It’s important that businesses support their local area as this helps to stimulate community wellbeing and promote economic growth.  When I was a young boy, I took part in the carnival street parade and I still have happy memories of the community spirit and support as we walked along the route as people waved and cheered as we passed by.  It was lovely to see so many people coming out to support the event and waving at Bunting the Bear, the new Werrington Carnival mascot along the way”

A spokesperson from the Werrington Scout & Guide committee said “We’d like to thank everybody. Our committee, our willing helpers, our sponsors, our stall holders, our Scout and Guide leaders, parents and everybody who donated items and helped in any way to make this event happen. A big shout out to Neil at Insurewise and his guys for taking the lead in the procession with his car and our newly named Bunting Bear and all his support. Another shout out to our local pubs for joining in this year. We do hope you’ll put it on the calendar for next year!
